FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) – The University of Arkansas’ Division of Student Affairs hosted the National First-Generation Student Day Celebration Nov. 8.
The event recognized and celebrated those who are first-generation at the University of Arkansas. This included all students, faculty, and staff members.
The celebration was also held to help highlight specific resources on campus that support first-generation students.
Emily Cook, the Assistant Director of New Student and Family Programs, said as a program they are happy to support these students in whatever way they can. “We are very fortunate that the Dr. Robinson, the interim chancellor is very supportive of first-generation students, specifically first-generation Arkansans. So being able to host this here means a lot to these students because they need to feel supportive by the university.” She said.
T-shirts and stickers were given to both current first-generation students and recent graduates. The stickers are a part of a bigger plan to showcase the large number of students that are first generations on the university’s campus.
The New Student and Family Program will continue to host events to ensure inclusivity on campus.
