Fayetteville, Ark. (UATV) — One UA professor and chair of the School of Journalism and Strategic Media receives yet another Emmy Award for his work as a filmmaker.
The Mid-America Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences awarded Larry Foley his eighth Emmy for directing an 80-minute documentary feature “Indians, Outlaws, Marshals and the Hangin’ Judge.”
“It means a lot to me personally to receive the Emmy for directing,” Foley says. “ I worked with actors — and not just scenes and a crew — but a lot of actors both professionally and amateur.”
This is Foley’s eighth Emmy and first Director Award, previously winning the Silver Circle Award for his 40-plus year career.
The film features several other members of the U of A community including Chancellor Charles Robinson, communication professor Frank Scheide and history professor Elliott West. In addition, journalism instructor Hayot Tuychiev, journalism professor emeritus Dale Carpenter and music professor emeritus Jim Greeson also worked on the project.
“When any of us as faculty members get recognized or honored for our teaching or our scholarship or our creative work, I think it raises the level for the program,” Foley says. “That not only are we teaching here, we are out three engaging in projects that other people think are worthy.”
