FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) – Senior Grace Crain was announced as the University of Arkansas’ 2021 homecoming queen.
Coming from a family of Razorbacks, she said this feels even more special to her.
“They’re probably more excited than I am,” Crain said. “I think I’m the 11th person in my family to go to school here, so Razorback pride runs very deep.”
But what did it take to achieve this honor?
When the tradition first started, the football team would pick the homecoming queen, but now the process is more involved, including writing essays and doing interviews in front of a panel of judges.
Crain was selected to represent her sorority, Tri Delta.
Along with being heavily involved in that, she is on the Walton Honors Executive Board, currently in the accelerated MBA program and is the president of Beta Gamma Sigma.
ASG Vice President Teia Anderson oversees the homecoming court selection process.
She said the chosen applicants possess impressive resumes.
“They’ve had some tangible impact that’s helped better our campus, whether that’s within their specific organization or more campus wide.” Anderson said.
After advancing to the top seven, which makes up the court, campaigning for the crown began.
The slogan “Crown Crain” started popping up around social media outlets as a way to ask students to vote for her.
Then came the day where she would be voted queen.
On Oct. 15, Crain and the rest of the court paraded down Dickson street and headed for the pep rally at the Greek Theater for the announcement.
All that preparation led to one single moment of being crowned homecoming queen at the University of Arkansas.
The next day, her and king Jack Berg were honored at halftime of the Razorback football game against Auburn.
