FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) – The McGarrah Farms, home of the Ozark Corn Maze, recently moved from Cave Springs to Fayetteville. The move happened because the owners wanted a bigger location to expand on activities at the farm. The other reason was due to flooding at the old location that caused some attractions to be unused by guests.
At this new location, the farm opened for the season on September 18. Included at the farm, is the main attraction, the Ozark Corn Maze. The theme for the maze is “Farm Scene Investigation.” Participants will be handed a slip sheet of paper at the entrance and will stop at stands throughout to figure out which fictional farm animal committed the crime.
The farm sits on 100 acres, with new activities aside from the maze. There is a pumpkin patch for guests to pick and buy their favorite pumpkins. There is an apple cannon, where guests can shoot apples out of a make-shift cannon and attempt to hit a target. Also, hayrides around the farm are available. For families with children, there are playgrounds and trampolines.
“Other than our farm stuff, we do pumpkins, sunflowers, jams, jellies, honey, all of that,” said McGarrah Farms employee Madison Vickery. “My favorite part of the farm is the barn chute slide. It’s 55 feet long, and we soap up, and we push you off, and you go and fly.”
While all of these attractions are outside, the farm has COVID precautions in place to protect guests. In order to eliminate big crowds, tickets are sold both in-person and online. The tickets are also limited and spilt into time slots. While masks are not required, the farm urges guests to wear a face mask upon entering and stay socially distant from others.
The mission of the farm is to be a gathering place in its community. “We don’t do this for us, we do it because we love our community,” said Vickery. “We want everybody to come out here and have a good time and leave like they made memories.”
The farm is opened Thursday and Fridays from noon to 10 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will run through Halloween and close for the Christmas season, where they will host their annual light show “Southern Lights.”
The price for general admission is $10, with children under two being free.
