FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) —Parents often tell their kids to shoot for the moon or the stars, but one U of A student hopes to do that for real.
While, many have dreamt about becoming an astronaut or working for NASA, few actually achieve that goal. But for Noshin Nawar, that dream is becoming a reality.
Nawar is one of two U of A students that will be interning with NASA this summer.
Nawar will be working with the Johnson Space Center this summer to create software that astronauts will use on the international space station and future missions.
The book “an astronauts guide to life on earth” encouraged her to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering with an aerospace concentration.
While the internship is remote this year, Nawar is excited about getting to work on interstellar projects.
“As a woman in STEM, it sometimes feels like you have to be on the upper end of your classes, you have to be the best in your field or else you’re not valid,” Nawar said, “it would be nice to see more women in STEM, so that we don’t have as much pressure on ourselves to be the best and have to be amazing to be valid.”
Nawar’s dream is to continue working for NASA and to hopefully become an astronaut in the future.
Nawar was even recognized by mayor of Fayetteville, Lioneld Jordan, for her accomplishment.
