Music graduate recitals continue this week

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) – A music graduate student at the University of Arkansas will perform his Graduate recital tonight. Peter Scott will be performing on April 27, 2021, at 7:30 p.m. at the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Scott will be playing the euphonium, a brass wind instrument with valves, resembling a tuba but smaller.

Scott started playing the euphonium in 2008 when he was entering sixth grade. Scott says he has a passion for music and plans to continue playing after he graduates. Scott said he will graduate with his master’s “in Music Performance, and plan to teach my instrument privately for a living.”

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the recital will be streamed virtually on the UARK Music YouTube channel.

Although he will be performing in front of a camera instead of a large crowd, Scott said he is nervous but mainly excited. Scott continued by stating that he finally gets to perform the songs he has been working months to perfect, “It’s a real test of performance mindset, being able to move past mistakes without having the audience’s presence to mitigate those rough moments.”

Going more in-depth on this topic, Scott shared that performing remotely gives him more nerves than performing in person because any mistakes he makes will echo into a silent hall.

Scott elaborates, “There’s no positive feedback of applause at the end to, kind of, validate the good parts of the performance”

To applaud Peter for his graduate recital, a Facebook group was started full of his friends and family. Other graduating musicians will be performing their solo recitals this week. For more information, visit music@uark.edu.
