FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Throughout the week, Fayetteville Parks and Recreation hosted litter clean-up events in honor of Earth Day.

Volunteers were given supplies such as gloves, litter grabbers, and vests, along with an Earth Day T-shirt. City of Fayetteville’s Environmental Educator, Heather Ellzey, said the events help clean multiple areas in the city.

“We’ve had a clean-up at a different location each day this week,” Ellzey said. “We cleaned up 15th street outside walker park, we’ve been out at lake Wilson, today we are here at crossover, and tomorrow we will be at lake Sequoyah.”

Tomorrow will be the last litter clean-up event. Volunteers can pick up supplies between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the lake Sequoyah marina.

“Today, the sun is out, and we’ve had a lot more volunteers, and we are definitely hoping to see a big turnout tomorrow at lake Sequoyah,” Ellzey said.

Ellzey said people are welcome to volunteer and clean up litter any time, not just at these events. To schedule a litter clean-up or learn more about the event taking place tomorrow, visit the City of Fayetteville Recycling and Trash Department’s website.
