National Animal care and control week

FAYETTEVILLE, ARK (UATV) — This week is national animal care and control appreciation week, for the Fayetteville Animal Services Shelter it was another week of caring for shelter pets.

“Although we do feel appreciated by all the comments we saw on facebook, it’s just another week for us.” Animal control officer Amanda Mann said.

The staff at Fayetteville Animal Services Shelter was treated to a goat yoga class in their dog park this week.

Amanda said that lunches were provided for the staff today April 13th, and that, “it’s the little things like this that make this week feel special.”

The reward of someone finding their lost pet, training their dogs, or finding a new forever home because of the shelter is all the staff needs to keep going.

Staff Appreciation week looked different before the pandemic began, and so did the operations of the shelter. Amanda talked about how all face to face interactions have been diminished to only emergency situations for animal control.

The shelter has kept their doors locked as to not welcome any unwanted guests, and to control the number of people allowed in the building.

As a result of their new locked door policy all donations can be left at the front door, but if a resident wishes to surrender their animal to the shelter, to knock on the door and check in.

All animals available for adoption can be viewed online, the shelter asks residents to apply for an adoption and wait for the call rather than coming to the shelter unannounced. After being approved for adoption residents can then visit the shelter to meet the animal.

The staff is still available for any questions or concerns through their facebook page and shelter phone number (479)444-3456.

As staff appreciation week comes to a close this sunday the staff tells that they are hopeful that the social outreach online will result in more adoptions to clear the shelter. All events and services provided for the community by the shelter can be viewed on the Fayetteville Government website at https://Fayetteville-ar.gov under the services section.
