The University of Arkansas Celebrates 150th Anniversary

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.- On March 27th through the next year the University of Arkansas celebrated its 150th Anniversary. 

In 1871 Arkansas established the U of A, the state’s very first public institution of higher education. Originally the name of the university was the Arkansas Industrial University. On January 22nd, 1872 the first students enrolled and the very first class graduate in 1876 

The University boasts having things such as the number one supply chain management program, being top 3% of research activity, and having a 2.2 billion dollar impact on the state economy. 

Graduate Dustin Howerton from Fort Smith recalls growing up a razorback fan and always wanted to go to the U of A. 

“I’m beyond excited to become alumni from this school,” Alumni Dustin Howerton said,” as an Arkansas, it feels like a big honor.”

Celebrations will be held across campus all year including events such as Come as You Are Day, an online exhibition of University artifacts submitted by fans, and a Silas Hunt legacy celebration on April 22nd, 2022.

The university has had over 200,000 graduates in its history.
