Students living on campus adjust to weather conditions

By: Elena Thompson

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) On the third day of in-person class cancellations, students living on campus are adjusting to icy conditions.

There have been limited buildings open on campus, and campus faculty have been working to clear safe paths to essential services such as dining halls and transportation. In addition, facilities like the Arkansas Union and the HPER are operating under limited hours from 12-5 p.m.

Many students have expressed concerns about going home for the weekend due to the icy conditions as the University gets prepared for the first spring break scheduled for Feb. 22-23.

One student said that she will not be able to go home for the weekend because of these conditions.

“I really wanted to go home this weekend.” said Shalu Jivan.

Leaving campus has also been difficult for residents who’ve had to walk to Walmart on campus or drive to a local food store to purchase groceries.

One resident added, “The roads here aren’t great. I [drove] to Walmart yesterday and did not enjoy my time.”

On the other hand, some students are making the most of this by making make-shift sleds out of cardboard boxes and other items.

Classes on campus are cancelled through tomorrow, February 18, 2021.
