FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) – After two days of cancelled in-person classes by the University of Arkansas, students at home are now having to deal with more than just the winter storm.
Power companies like Ozarks Electric Cooperative and Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO) sent out notices to suppliers today informing them of controlled outages that would take place today.
Residents of Ozark Villas received an alert this morning that said, “We are scheduled to be a part of that process and will lose power for one-two hours.”
Some students at the U of A say that the power outages have put a wrench in their daily routines.
Senior, Max McKeown said that because of the power outage at his apartment, he had to stay with his partner to keep warm however he will continue to push through the power outage.
“I just got home roughly 30 minutes ago, and everything seems to be fine as of now,” said McKeown. “However, with the incoming snowfall, I don’t know if that will still be the case.
McKeown is not the only student affected by these outages happening across the city.
On our Instagram page, we polled our audience asking them, “Have you or someone you know experienced a power outage during this winter storm?” in which over 60 percent of the voters said “Yes”.
Some students responded saying “I wasn’t able to attend two of my online classes due to power and wifi issues,” while others added, “My Teaching Assistant’s power went out in the middle of a lab.”
McKeown says he tries to have in-person classwork prepared to avoid any conflict with power outages and his classes.
“As far as classwork, I’ve tried to get a lot of it done as fast as possible in the shortest amount of time before the power goes out again,” said McKeown.
As for now the University has already cancelled all in person classes for Wednesday, February 16.
