FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) – One of the premiere women’s basketball programs—the University of Connecticut Huskies—make their way to the Hill to face head coach Mike Neighbors and the number 15 Razorbacks.
The Razorbacks were scheduled to play the Vanderbilt Commodores prior to Vanderbilt’s cancellation of their season due to COVID-19 complications.
The Huskies have produced high-caliber professional talent such as Sue Bird and Breanna Stewart, both leaders on the reigning WNBA champs, the Seattle Storm. The Huskies currently stand undefeated at 10-0 after a dominant 72-41 win over the Georgetown Hoyas.
The number 1 recruit out of Hopkins, Minnesota, Paige Bueckers, who led Hopkins to a 30-0 record, is questionable with the game, dealing with an ankle injury. In the Huskies’ game against Butler, Bueckers shot 62.5% from the field, and 3-4 from three-point range, and finished with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists, and 4 steals.
The Razorbacks are coming off of a two-point loss to an unranked Georgia team. In the game, star shooting guard, Chelsea Dungee, shot a shaky 7-22 from the field and went an unusual 0-3 from three-point range. Dungee got most of her shot opportunities from the charity stripe, where she went 11-14. Dungee finished the game with 25 points, adding to her streak of 20-plus point games against SEC opponents.
“We are so proud of our team for wanting to play against the best teams in the country,” said Head Coach Mike Neighbors.
This comes as the second time the Huskies will face the Hogs, the first taking place in 1998 with UConn taking the win 100-64.
The Huskies and Hogs will tip-off at Bud Walton arena at 5 p.m. CT on January 28.
