FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) City Council members voted on Tuesday to approve an ordinance extending the sunset clause for the outdoor drinking program.
The ordinance passed 7-1 with Council Member Matthew Petty voting against the proposal.
The Sunset Clause outlines rules and regulations for businesses and customers regarding the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages in public. Main highlights of the clause are the required biodegradable cups and generous serving hours.
The clause was set to expire at the end of this month, the extension adds three years to the program. Giving city council members flexibility on evaluating the long-term effect of the program.
Council Member Teresa Turk, who initially proposed this extension, says the revised ordinance will give the city council an opportunity to reevaluate the ordinance in the future and decide if it is practical after the pandemic.
