FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — For many engaged couples, their wedding day is one of the most memorable and romantic moments in a relationship. However, being engaged in the middle of a pandemic has forced numerous couples to get creative with their nuptials.
UA seniors Robyn and John David Lancaster got married in early May after having to figure out how to completely change a wedding they’ve been planning for over six months.
“I cried for about two weeks when I found out like, no, there’s no way you can do this 300 person wedding, so, it was an adjustment.” Lancaster said
Lancaster said they changed their entire wedding plan in one weekend, going from a 300 person wedding with a venue in Northwest Arkansas, to an intimate ceremony in her grandparent’s backyard in Conway, with her grandfather officiating.
“I was just really blessed by a lot of people coming together” said Lancaster, “it really wasn’t even much planning, it was just a lot of people coming together and really helping us out”
In addition to having to change the entire wedding plan, the couple also had to forgo their honeymoon plans.
“We were supposed to go to Costa Rica… and our flight was cancelled” Lancaster said, “there was really nowhere we could go in May, so we had an AirBnb just outside of Fayetteville for one day, and then we went back to work the following Tuesday, so, we never really got a honeymoon.”
Lancaster said that getting married in a pandemic is just a testament to how strong their bond is.
“It’s been hard, it’s a lot of changing and disappointment, but I think it’s also been really good for us.” said Lancaster
Lancaster said having hardship at the beginning of their marriage has been good for the couples and has helped them learn how to deal with those hardships together.
