FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — A University of Arkansas monument was vandalized late last week after an attempted prank.
The Wild Band of Razorbacks Fountain, which sits at the entrance of Donald W. Reynold Razorback Stadium, was damaged in an overnight prank Sept. 2. An individual that has yet to be identified poured a dishwashing liquid into the fountain Wednesday evening, according to a UAPD daily crime log entry.
UAPD Captain Gary Crain said that campus police were notified after 9 p.m. by a staff member that passed by the monument.
Officers arrived at the scene shortly after 10 p.m. and found several individuals around the fountain, Crain said.
Putting dishwashing soap in a fountain on a college campus is nothing new, Crain said.
“Putting soap in a fountain is one of the oldest pranks to occur on a college campus, it used to happen quite a bit up on the mall at the fountain there at the union. It died out after a while, people stopped doing it because it can also damage the fountains,” Crain said.
UAPD had not yet identified the person responsible for the prank, but Crain said they will be held responsible for possible damages.
The incident is currently under investigation.
Videos of students getting in the soap filled fountain starting circulating on Twitter Wednesday night.
