FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Many of us are going through hard times in the midst of COVID-19. As weeks turn into months some people have started to look on the bright side and are enjoying their time in quarantine. This is a time where we can bring out those tunes and have a jam session. Get ready to kick back and relax to 5 Seconds of Summer’s newest album that released just a few weeks ago.
“CALM” is the band’s fourth studio album and showcases songs that are both relaxing and upbeat. If you’re taking a walk or having a dance party in the kitchen, this album will do the trick. I have listened to the album more than 10 times on repeat. All 12 tracks have their own unique sound that I use for all different parts of my daily social distancing routine.
The song “Teeth” is a great combo of Halloween type acoustics and rock. This is the song that warrants the jump on your couch in the living room. It’s also the song that will get you an angry noise complaint from your neighbors. It is also the perfect high intensity song for a HIIT Fit workout.
“Red Desert” and “Lonely Heart” are the best songs for taking a walk on a sunny day. Both songs have a great upbeat tempo that’s great for a run or speed walking. My absolute favorite song in the album has to be “Easier”. It’s one of those songs that affects you within the first five seconds. Easier is a song that I personally play when I’m doing homework, folding laundry, having mini dance session, or cooking. It’s a song that can be played at any time of the day with any activity.
Calum Hood, Ashton Erwin, Luke Hemmings, and Michael Clifford have helped create a calming music listening experience. I have become more “CALM” in quarantine thanks to this album. Lead vocalist Luke Hemmings says, “We love making music and playing shows and fans of ours and people in general just find happiness in that. If we can do something that makes people happy, I mean that’s the dream.” Just like this album, music can affect the way be go through daily life. According to Healthline.com, a 2013 study in the Journal of Positive Psychology found that when people listen to upbeat music their overall mood changed. In two weeks, the music helped boost their happiness. If you’re feeling a bit down, maybe try your 14 day quarantine listening to an album that for me has helped me to feel happy and energetic.
