FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Despite Super Tuesday being in full affect, the Students at the U of A have their own election to worry about this week. Last week, hopeful nominees from the U of A contributed in spirited debates about who should be in charge of next years Associated Student Government. Following the debate, this week the actual voting takes place.
The elections taking place include the Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, and the President. Students will notice tables set up throughout the university as the candidates canvass the area. The hopefuls can even give you a card with a scannable code from your phone, to make voting as convenient as possible. Student president candidate Katie Gardner went more in depth on the responsibilities of the ASG president.
“The President serves as the voice of the ASG, but also the voice of the student body, they chair a variety of committees and have a variety of responsibilities, including allocating student fees, which is really impactful in how students receive their Razorback experience,” Katie said.
Katie believes the ASG, especially the President is very important for how the ASG runs during next year.
“I think it’s very important for the ASG to be as effective as possible so that everyone can have their best Razorback experience.”
The voting has been taking place all week and it will end tomorrow afternoon at 4. Any students interested in voting in the election just needs to go to vote.uark.edu. The Student Government is responsible for many different aspects of how students at the U of A live their daily lives. Results for the election won’t be available immediately as the votes are initially being tallied.
