It’s been 100 years since women had the right to vote but Congress and Arkansas General Assembly remains predominantly male. According to the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University, women have taken advantage of their right to vote. In the 2016 election, just over 63% of women and 59% of men voted which is a difference of 9.9 million votes.
Women are making their way in government positions but still fall short compared to men. As Super Tuesday approaches, Democratic Candidate Elizabeth Warren made her way to North Little Rock, Arkansas this past weekend to promote her campaign.
“She understands the needs of lower and middle class and is fighting for them. She definitely makes me as a LGBTQ woman feel heard,” says Krysten Younge, attendee of the campaign.
The League of Women Voters in Northwest Arkansas celebrated a century on Sunday where women-led bands and women speakers came to celebrate.
