FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Two renovations and expansions are going on in the Fayetteville libraries. These libraries include the Fayetteville Public Library and the Mullins Library on campus of the University of Arkansas. According to reports both projects are on budget and on schedule.
The public library renovation has been in the making since 2012. After private donations were made, the $50 million-dollar project began in 2016.
The library extension will connect the Blair building with a staircase featuring areas that will include hands-on activities. This will also be a space for artist that live in Northwest Arkansas to display their creations. Another addition will be the “movement rooms” for classes such as yoga and dance.
The Mullins library is still under construction at the University of Arkansas with renovations being made to floors three and four. They are doing demolition work and removing asbestos as of right now. After this is completed they will begin the official $23 million-dollar remodel. They are predicted to be done by the summer of 2021.
Some students are having a hard time finding seating in the library due to this construction. One student says, “seating is hard to find” in the Mullins library during the remodel process. They are not alone. Many have complained about the lack of seating in Mullins. If you are needing to use the library before the remodel is completed in 2021 the first two floors are still open to students. The library has added 171 seats to the first two floors totaling to over 1,000 seats for students.
