FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV)– The University of Arkansas has seen over 100 cases of the flu over the past two weeks. The Pat Walker Health Center is encouraging students to get their flu shot as soon as they can.

“All across the United States flu activity is high and expected to continue for weeks. The best way to protect against the flu is to get your annual flu vaccine as well as practice effective raspatory hygiene,” said Zac Brown, Assistant Director of Communications at the health center.

Symptoms of the flu include; fever, chills, sore throat, body aches, runny or stuffy nose, and cough. If students are experiencing these symptoms they must stay home from class until they are fever free for at least 24-hours without the use of a fever-reducing medicine.

The average number of days a student is sick with the flu is 8 days. For students to avoid getting the flu they can get a flu shot, wash hands, get plenty of sleep, drink a lot of water, and avoid being around other people who are sick.

Students can call and schedule an appointment at Pat Walker Health Center.
