FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Mullins Library hosted an “un-quiet” event at the library in celebration of saying farewell to the third and fourth floor of the building.

Students who attended the event took advantage of the opportunity to create graffiti on the walls that will be torn down during the renovation.

The event also featured musical performances by The FayetteTones, the World Music Ensemble, two ukulele players, and more.

The library renovations are a big deal to the university because they are the first major renovations to Mullins Library in 20 years.

The project began this fall semester, which let many students to become upset with the noise and decrease in tables on the third and forth floors.

“They don’t allow any space for students to study,” said Mary Alice Jordan, a student who is a regular at Mullins. “The library was bad enough before with the small amount of tables they had prior to renovations.”

The first phase of the renovations will double the number of seating and available study areas on the third and fourth floors. These levels will also consist of 24 study rooms in various sizes.

Along with more power outlets throughout the building, there will be more than a thousand seats added throughout the library.

The library renovations on the third and fourth level are expected to be completely finished by Fall 2021 semester. Once these renovations are done, they will focus on the first and second level.

“I won’t be here when the renovations are completed, but I’m excited to see the finished product when it’s done,” Jordan said.
