FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — With harsh winter weather sweeping over Fayetteville, students were left wondering about the university’s cancellation policies.
According to the weather emergency procedure, in the event of inclement weather, the university can do one of three things. Cancel classes and non-essential offices and services. Delay the start of classes and opening of non-essential offices and services. They can also do an early dismissal of classes and early closing of non-essential offices and services.
The university’s policy says, “the safety of students, faculty and staff and the integrity of university operations are the primary concerns when deciding on a response to inclement weather.”
When inclement weather is forecasted, the Inclement Weather Group, made of various university officials, will get together to watch the conditions.
As inclement weather comes into the area, University Police will keep track of road conditions on and around campus. They will stay in communication with the Inclement Weather Group.
After a decision is reached campus is notified.

“I had an assumption I made about it based on my high school’s policy,” said Sam Kirby, a freshman on campus.
Kirby said they should send a reminder of the policy to students after the first cancellation to keep students informed.
