FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.- Homecoming; a celebration recognized here at the University of Arkansas as a long-standing tradition.

Homecoming serves as a time for alumni to back their alma mater where it all began, but also a time for the student body to recognize those that came before them.

University of Arkansas 2019 homecoming parade director, Julia Rogers said, “The first University of Arkansas homecoming was held in 1922 and there they started the homecoming parade”

A tradition often imitated yet never duplicated at the University of Arkansas.

“One of the biggest and most unique traditions we have here at the University of Arkansas

is our senior walk, so every year around homecoming we have a senior walk dedication to dedicate the new names that were etched in stone for the previous year’s graduates”.

Indeed, a senior walk to remember, one that holds immense meaning to the university and the students.

“The theme this year is etched in stone, and it kind of has a double meaning this year so obviously we have a senior walk; and so that’s the literal meaning of the name etched in stone, but for me I take it as we kind of all want to leave something here behind more than our names so we want to leave a legacy”.

“The student alumni association has a float in the parade so we’re kind of working on it here. This is going to be our 1905 senior walk on the parade float which is the first senior walk”.

Homecoming 2019 another year and a long-standing tradition at the U of A.

The homecoming festivities are just getting started. This Friday, November 1st the homecoming parade takes place at 6 pm and this Saturday, November 2nd is the football game where the 2019 homecoming king and queen will be announced.
