FAYETTEVILLE-Ark.,– The 8th annual Free Cat Friday is coming back to Fayetteville November 8th. The Fayetteville Animal Shelter’s mission is to free up their caging in order to be able to fit new cats that need a place to stay until they, too, are adopted.
Over the past years the shelter has given away around 500 cats from Free Cat Friday alone. Animal services superintendent, Justine Lentz, said, “People love to be apart of something, especially when it comes to rescuing a pet. So it’s just an event we run from time to time to generate excitement.”
All of the available cats will be spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and tested for feline Leukemia in order to be fully healthy before going to their new homes.
Lentz stressed that even though there is no cost, adoption should still not be taken lightly.
“It’s still a lifetime commitment. So just because your adoption fee may be waved, doesn’t mean you that you won’t have unexpected vet bills, cost in food and supplies, that sort of thing. So we still counsel people on that because that’s an important decision.”
Lentz said last year the line was out of the door, so she encourages families who are planning on coming to adopt to fill out the adoption forms prior to Friday.
The adoption application forms can be picked up from the shelter itself, or printed off of the City’s website.
