FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Current and former students of University of Arkansas who represent the first generation of their families to achieve higher education will have a chance to be honored at the Arkansas Union Friday.

UA New Student & Programs hosts “I’m First,” a three hour catered event Friday afternoon at the Connections Lounge, commonly referred to as the flag room.

According to NSFP associate director Larry Cloud, selected students will be invited to speak on their experiences being the first in their families to attend college.

Student Affairs said UA schedules the annual event each year in conjunction with National First-Generation College Student Celebration Day, started by the non-profit group Council for Opportunity in Education in 2017.

Friday’s event will last from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is open to all the community, according to the university website.
