NWA Fashion Week rolled out the red carpet this year with many new things walking down the runway.
The Assistant Director of Modeling, Ro Bailey, said NWA Fashion week has 4 designer dresses walking the runway, new partnerships this year with Coca Cola and Kendra Scott, a designer from Amsterdam partnering with a local boutique, and much more. Fashion week is bigger than ever here in Northwest Arkansas.
But, fashion is not the only thing that the NWA Fashion week is bringing to the runway. They are focused on looks that are for everyone and diversifying their models. Ro Bailey points out that, “It’s not 1970 where all models have to be 6 feet tall and a double zero. Fashion should be for everybody and the biggest consumers are not size zeros or 6 feet tall. They are regular sized women with curves and we try to represent that in the media and on the runway.”
The board of NWA Fashion week wants everyone that watches the show to see themselves in the models that are walking. “I think that little girls watching and moms watching and people of all sizes can see themselves represented in the media and the runway in their hometown,” says Bailey.
With the amount of representation in the model lineup, NWA is already one step ahead of New York Fashion Week. Some people even believe that NWA could set an example for New York Fashion Week because of the diversity and representation in their models.
Ro ended the interview off with a few tips she gives her models before they walk out onto the runway, “I always tell them three things; never look at the ground, always put one foot directly in front of the other, and always put your shoulders back.”
If you haven’t been to NWA Fashion Week your missing out. Don’t hear about it, see about it.
Although NWA Fashion Week is over, next year is promised to be even bigger and better.
