FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Fitness4Less’ closure has left gym-going residents of Northwest Arkansas without a place to go.
Members of the gym were not given a warning that it would be shutting down the operation. Their memberships were sold to PlanetFitness.
However some former members, like Zach Gabbard, didn’t see the email before coming in.
“It was closed when I got there, I was like, ‘where is everybody,’ it was a total shock really,” said Gabbard.
In the email sent out to former members, Fitness4Less said the memberships will function with the same account at PlanetFitness.
Not all members were okay with the new destination. Robert Branscum had been a dedicated Fitness4Less member for years, but he wasn’t surprised the gym shut down.
“Hard to compete with the ‘$10 no judgment,’ gyms which are completely trash and the environment is toxic in my opinion,” he said.
Other gyms in the area have had different reactions to the closure.
“Come on in and lift weights, that sucks, I would hate for that to happen to me,” said Will Anthony, owner of Ozark Iron Gym.
J Street Gym, however, put out a post stating prospective new members would have to apply to not change the dynamic they already have.
