National Disability Awareness Month is a campaign that runs all through October. It raises awareness about employment issues for disabled people and celebrates the many and varied contributions of America’s workers with disabilities.
It is the 29th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and October is the month bringing awareness to disability issues. Organizations of all sizes in all industries are acknowledging the month, such as LifeStyle Incorporation.
“A lot of issues surrounding the life of individuals with disabilities that I think our community needs to pay more attention to and not just our community but our country at large,” Executive Director of Lifestyles inc John Newman said.
Newman says this month will help bring inclusivity within our community.
“In my mind this is what disability awareness month is all about is educating our community about issues individuals facing with disabilities and helping them to have all the opportunities available to them in the community and have access to them i think is very important for northeast arkansas, the state of arkansas and the country at large,” Newman said.
Newman says that seeing growth within the individuals with disabilities that he has helped is what makes him get out of bed in the morning.
“This job brings a level of joy that many jobs ive had you know you don’t have it in the same way that this jobs does. working with people it can be a very trying profession but it also has pay off that no other profession I’ve had,” Newman said.
