Amount of Parking on Campus Isn’t Close Enough to The Front Door

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Students are upset with the amount of parking spots on campus.

Many students are in a hurry to get to class, and end up parking in a spot that requires a parking permit they don’t have.

David Wilson, Director of Communications for UA Parking and Transit, is well aware of students frustration when it comes to parking.

“I know what they mean,” Wilson said. “What they mean is there’s not enough parking that’s close to where they want to be, and that’s not really possible for everybody to park right by the front door.”

Students are encouraged to contact UA Parking and Transit when they want to express their opinions about the ‘limited’ parking on campus.

Although, what students don’t realize is how much money it costs to build another parking garage.

Right now, there are more than 14,000 parking spaces, and 2,000 of the spaces are not filled everyday because they are considered ‘too far’ from the front door.

“Building more parking becomes very expensive,” Wilson said.

Complaints have been heard and taken into consideration by the UA Parking and Transit team.

“We are looking at a possibility of reassigning certain parking permits to different areas,” Wilson said. There’s nothing official yet. There’s nothing that’s been done yet. We look at things like that because if it will make it less congested in a certain part of campus, then maybe that is a solution.”
