Flu Season Prevention

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — With the arrival of Fall weather, Flu season begins in Northwest Arkansas.

The Pat Walker Health Center offers flu shots for students who are interested. The Health Center accepts most major insurances, but if not, the cost of the vaccine is $20.

Madi Lenow, a Freshman Biology major, experienced first hand what can happen when people don’t get the flu shot. She lost her cousin to the flu a few years ago.

“People do die from it, it’s real and I know that sounds kind of crazy to think that someone can die from what seems like a common disease or whatever,” said Lenow.

Flu season usually begins around early October and lasts throughout the Winter.

Zac Brown at the Pat Walker Health Center advises students to wash their hands frequently and avoid touching their faces to help prevent getting sick.
