University’s Largest Scholarship Winner Tells Story

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — An annual $18,500 scholarship is the biggest the University of Arkansas offers to students of the Sam Walton College of Business Administration.

Mary Pham, a freshman business student, won the premier scholarship.

Pham wasn’t sure she wanted to stay in state, but after touring the campus she decided to apply for Fayetteville.

She applied in February for admission and the Honors College Fellowship.

Pham didn’t make it past the first stage of the process to obtain the Honors.

“I didn’t even get the Honors Fellowship, so I didn’t really have high hopes to get the Boyer Fellowship,” she said.

After attending the Business Leadership Academy, she got connected with her advisor Jason Adams. He later followed up with Pham to ask if she was interested in applying for the Boyer Fellowship.

Pham said she wasn’t nervous going into her four-person facetime interview.

It seems her confidence paid off, as 5 days later she received an email informing her she had received the Boyer Fellowship. To make things even better, it was her birthday.
