CAMPUS TO BECOME AS SUSTAINABLE AS POSSIBLE

By Delaney Osbourn

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Through the rise in global warming, our campus is trying to figure out ways to be mindful of our environment.

Veo-ride was one idea that planned to make an impact and after it’s first year of service some say it has made a change in our environmental footprint. Veo-ride reported that over 100,000 rides were taken through the city of Fayetteville throughout the first year of business. According to Todd Hansen with the office of sustainability here on campus, veo-ride is helping bridge the gap for students who have to commute to campus every day. Through veo-ride and opportunities like shuttles that university housing complexes offer, students are helping impact our environment in our community.

But, when it comes to driving cars, Hansen says that students and faculty should be mindful of exactly how much they are driving. He also encourages students to carpool to and from campus. For students who want more information, the sustainability office is promoting an event called the NWA Climate Strike event on September 27 from 12PM-4PM in the Town Center Plaza and Square.
