FAYETTEVILLE, ARK. – The Hogs got their first win of the season after beating Portland State 20-13 Saturday. Ben Hicks, the starting quarterback, earned 143 of the 395 total yards. Running back Rakeem Boyd carried the ball for 114 yards and earned 1 touchdown. The team executed only five out of 15 third down conversions but managed to gain both fourth down conversions.
After the game, Coach Chad Morris said, “By design we were vanilla. Especially knowing we’re going to a conference opener this week.”
Next up for the Razorbacks is Ole Miss. Last year, the Rebels beat Arkansas 37-33 in Little Rock. Since 2014, Ole Miss has won four out of the five times the teams met. This season, the Hogs are looking to get their first SEC not only of the year, but since the last time Arkansas visited Oxford in 2017. Whoever prevails will take a crucial step towards bowl eligibility.
“We got a big opportunity this week for our program as we travel on the road to Ole Miss in a conference opener. Our players will respond, and we look forward to this great challenge,” Coach Morris said.
Kickoff is Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
