The University of Arkansas’ Center for Multicultural and Diversity Education hosts various events throughout the semester, bringing students of diverse cultures together.

“We aim to provide academic, cultural and social programs intended to promote inclusiveness, foster achievement and assist in the development and advancement of a diverse student body.” A representative told me. academic, cultural and social programs intended to promote inclusiveness, foster achievement and assist in the development and advancement of a diverse student body.” A representative told me.

They do this through the College Access Initiative which has workshops that help with financial aid, studying for the ACT and personal statements. It also includes programs that provide training, resources, and guidance for underrepresented students wanting to pursue a college education.

Hosting Cultural Heritage Months, they celebrate the customs, values, and traditions of different cultures within the United States. They “examine the issues and struggles of different communities as well as affirming their contributions to American society.” With these celebrations, they also have “Safe Zone Allies” which are members of the University who believe students in the campus community should be treated equally and fairly regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity.

The University of Arkansas is made up of students from a variety of backgrounds. The Multicultural Center is committed to helping these students explore their commonalities and embrace the differences with their peers around them.
