Students Can Avoid Being Another Statistic by Learning Sanction Guidelines

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — As of 2014, over 3,000 violations for alcohol or drug possession were given out on campus. Since the start of the semester, four violations have already been handed out.

Alcohol sales are now allowed in football and baseball stadiums across the south. However, universities are still required to follow the laws and policies set by the SEC.

Despite the recent change in regulation, restrictions on the possession, distribution and the purchase of alcohol on campus remain. According to the Resident Hall Handbook, students living in dorms can not have alcohol or empty alcohol bottles displayed, as this is seen as “trophying”.

Dr. Rachel Eikenberry from the Office of Student Standards and Conduct tells UATV that the five levels of sanctioning “[…] increases with severity of the violations and or repeat offenses.” Eikenberry assures students that the office sets out to help by maintaining a safe and positive environment.

Poll results from UATV’s social media show 59 percent of participants think alcohol sanctions aren’t strict enough, whereas 41 percent think they’re too strict.
