Fayetteville, Ark.– Some student athletes look to go professional as soon as they can but for others they have to come up with a backup plan.
Junior shooting guard, Jailyn Mason is the definition of a consistent shooter. Now that she’s almost played her last game on the hardwood, she strives to become a different kind of consistent shooter.
Mason has had a very steady career on the basketball team. She is consistent and a player you can count on to make shots when you need them, but just like any other student she isn’t sure what her future holds.
“At first I thought I wanted to be an athletic trainer and then I took anatomy and I said ‘that is not for me’ I cannot remember all the bones in the body,” Mason said. “So I decided I wanted to combine photography which I really enjoyed and the english side that I also enjoyed and put it into photojournalism.”
Mason strives to be a professional photographer after she is done with her basketball career. She’s taken pictures at multiple sporting events and even some in other parts of the world.
She knows that photography takes a lot of patience and understands it’s a process.
“I can have one fantastic picture out of 300 and I’ll be happy with it as long as it is like that ‘ooo that was just a really good one’ so, I mean again it’s all about learning and practicing,” Mason said.
Mason’s dream job is to one day work for a professional team and be able to take photos for them. She’s got all of this in the back of her mind while she gets to play her final season for the razorbacks.
Mason is excited to play in her final season but her takeaway from all of this is to always have a backup plan.
The razorbacks don’t come back to the court until next season but make sure you go out and watch Mason as she takes on her final season.
