FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.- A recently proposed bill would allow Arkansas patients to die on their own terms.
Representative Dan Douglas presented the Compassionate Care End-of-Life Option Act which would allow for physician-assisted suicide for those suffering from terminal illness.
The bill reads that physician-assisted suicide means “a physician or healthcare provider participating in a medical procedure or knowingly prescribing any drug, compound, or substance for the express purpose of assisting a patient to purposely end the patient’s life.”
The patient will need to be at least 18 years old and at least two specialists will have to confirm that the patient is of sound mind before the drug is administered.
