FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.—Students graduating this year will be entering the best job market since 2007 according to a new report.
The National Association of Colleges and Employers reports that businesses will be hiring 16.6 percent more new graduates than they did last year.
“Each year, the National Association of Colleges and Employers surveys its employer members about their hiring plans and other employment-related issues in order to project the market for new college graduates,” according to the report.
The report also showed that new graduates have a better chance of finding a job if they finish school in the spring. Seventy-one percent of businesses planned to recruit students in the fall of 2018, while only 29 percent have plans to recruit during the spring of 2019 according to the report.
Other information that may help new graduates is what potential employers look for on applications.
According to the report, 73 percent of employers screen GPAs (with 3.0 being the go-to cut-off point). The report also shows that 82 percent of businesses look for a well-written application, which shows proof of developed communication skills. Internships also help decide between two potential candidates according to the report.
University of Arkansas students looking for jobs or internships can take advantage of the school’s team-up with Handshake or the three career centers found on campus.
