FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.—The University of Arkansas’ Transit and Parking Department will implement new parking rules and designations for Harmon Parking Garage this semester.
The new parking designations allow students and faculty with Harmon parking permits to park on levels 1-7, while those without a permit can only use metered parking on levels 8 and 9.
Signs in Harmon Parking Garage mark the changes, and students or faculty members who fail to follow the new designations will be subject to parking tickets.
If a student’s ticket is $50 or less, however, they’re eligible to participate in the Work It Off Program. The program, put together by the Transit and Parking Department and the Associated Student Government, allows students to perform community service instead of paying out-of-pocket for minor tickets.
Students can only work off one ticket per year. The program allows only 1,000 tickets to be worked off in a school year and only 200 students have worked off tickets so far.
Student-run Twitter account “Broke Things at UARK” expressed frustration about receiving tickets.
