District 4 Senate Candidates, Campaigns, and Results

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark– **UPDATE** Incumbent Greg Leding has been reelected to the Senate as a Democratic representative. Senator Leding recieved 61.42% of the votes equalling 18,305 votes. Clemence recieved 11,469 votes.

Since the last census in 2010, District 4 represents 83,312 residents. There are two Senate positions for every state in the United States, compared to the 435 state representative positions proportionate to each state’s population. In order to switch the House of Representatives majority 24 Republican positions must be taken by Democrats, while also maintaining current Democratic seats.

Senator Greg Leding is the democratic nominee and the incumbent of the election. Senator Leding was first elected over Republican Candidate Bill Ramsey in 2011, and has been serving as Senator ever since. Senator Leding is a father and an Arkansas native. He recieve a bachelor’s degree in Marketing Management at the University of Arkansas in 2001.

Leding’s campaign slogan is “an Arkansas that works for everybody.” According to Leding’s campaign website his platform places emphasis on working families, education, and equality.

Republican nominee, Dawn Clemence, like other female candidates has not been in a political position in the past. According to Clemence’s campaign website, she has experience in manufacturing, management, and medical fields. Clemence is a first generation college student, and comes from a working class family. Clemence plans to establish Skills Training Centers to decrease low-skilled, low-income workers in Arkansas. According to Clemence’s website, “Individual rights, personal responsibility and property rights are essential principles of life.”
