FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.- A local organization will be having a walk to bring awareness to the community of Type One diabetes in children and adults.
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in Northwest Arkansas hosts this event to give people with Type One diabetes, their loved ones, and the local community the opportunity to come together to make a change by raising money to find a breakthrough for the disease.
The walk is divided by groups, in which, each team raises money for the organization. Team captain Dalton Smith says how her team has supported this organization since 2011.
“My team started with 13 people and this year we are up to 55 people” said Dalton Smith.
Her team has several sponsors that help pay for the team’s shirts. She hopes by having the shirts paid off, her team members use the money to make a donation to the organization instead.
“I have had Type One diabetes since I was 2 years old so it holds a special place in my heart” said Dalton Smith.
The organization is planning on raising $313,000.
The event will be held October 13th from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Gardens at the University of Arkansas.
JDRF’s moto is to help turn Type One to Type none.
