FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.–  The University of Arkansas launched the It’s On Us campaign this past Monday. The week long program creates a platform for students to openly talk about sexual assault on campus. With events ranging from informational tables to self defense classes, the U of A works to spread awareness about sexual assault.

According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, nearly 40 % of students on college campuses are victims of sexual assault. With almost 30,000 students on the University of Arkansas campus that means approximately 12,000 students will experience some type of sexual assault before graduation.

Greek Life Director Parice Bowser brought this campaign to the university to decrease the number of sexual assaults reported on campus and to provide information for students to know what to do when an incident does occur.

IFC Board member Mitchell Liccioni said that programs like this provide education for many fraternal members on what to do if they are sexually assaulted or prevent themselves from hurting any else.

Sexual assault victim and U of A senior Nicole Teumer believes that the University of Arkansas handles sexual assault cases properly and believes that with campaigns like It’s On Us, students will continue to become more aware of these issues.

The It’s On Us Campaign concludes this Friday night at 8 with the campus-wide pep rally. All are encouraged to attend the events this week and remember that It’s On Us as Razorbacks to prevent sexual assault.
