FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Twenty-seven acres of land near the University of Arkansas are up for sale. Back in 1993, the University of Arkansas Agriculture Department and the city of Fayetteville brokered a 25 year lease deal. A lease which ends this June.
Anticipating the ending of the lease, the city created a new park on the south side of town: Mt. Kessler Regional Park.
The university is now looking to sell the land once the lease ends. Some speculate once the land is sold, it will be used to build condominiums.
Many local residents take aim against selling the park. Signs with the hashtag, “SaveLewis” can be seen when driving down Wedington Road, with the goal to keep Lewis Park right where it is.
