Remembering Former Razorbacks

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark — In years past the U of A has lost several students. To remember them the university created Razorback Remembrance. It’s an art project that is created by a current student every 2 years in memory of those who lost their lives.

This year U of A sophomore Hannah Watson was selected from the applicants to create her design. “I wanted to make something for people where they can feel comforted and safe and close to the people they’ve lost,” Watson said.

She created an 8 by 4 foot willow tree.

“The bottom is painted black at first and that represents the hardships people go through in their lifetime and how you just have to keep going and climbing until you reach the top and as you go up the tree the black slowly fades to white and then you get to the gold leaves which represents happiness and pureness and just overcoming your problems,” Watson explained.

Watson, who has experienced loss in her own life knows it can be extremely hard to deal with grief but she hopes her tree and art can help ease their pain.
