FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – A joint survey by Temple University and the Wisconsin HOPE Lab found that 36 percent of students who attend a 4-Year institution suffer from food insecurity. The report was based on the responses of 43,000 students at 66 institutions across the country.
The report ranked food security based on four levels, high, marginal, low and very low. Over half of the respondents answered they had high food security. However, 22 percent of respondents answered that their food security was very low. The number of food insecure students increased to 42 percent when 2-Year institutions were questioned.
The survey also collected information related to housing insecurity and homelessness. The report stated that 9 percent of students had been homeless within the last year.
