FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Federal Trade Commission officially launches an investigation into the privacy of millions of Facebook users. Now Chuck Grassley, an Iowa Republican and part of the Senate Judiciary Committee, along with other elected officials, demand that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg appear before Congress.
Sen. Grassley invited Zuckerberg to testify at an upcoming hearing. The response he received was from a Facebook representative saying the company will review the invitation. The hearing would examine the security of consumer data and account protection.
The suspicion originated from a survey app during President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. Political consultants are believed to have collected personal data from nearly 50 million Facebook users. Zuckerberg said Facebook restrictions would tighten but users still fear for their safety.
