The No. 5 Razorback baseball team (6-2) returned to Baum Stadium in style Wednesday, blowing out the Dayton Flyers (1-6) 18-1 in the first game of the teams’ midweek series.
Freshman pitcher Caleb Bolden got the start, and he pitched six innings without giving up a run or a walk. Bolden wasn’t the only freshman to make his presence felt, however.
Casey Martin blasted two home runs on the day from the nine spot, and he racked up a total of six RBIs on the day. As a whole, the Razorbacks were more than effective when batting with two outs. The Hogs were 11-for-21 on the day when in that position, and they forced the Flyers to fly through eight pitchers during the game.
The victory was extremely important for the Razorbacks, who dropped two games during a road trip to California. The Hogs were ranked as high as third in the country before losing those matchups.
The two teams will square off again Thursday at 3 p.m. to conclude their two-game series. Game 2 will be aired on SEC Network Plus.
