Heavy Rains Could Bring an End to Fayetteville Drought

By Jarrett Hobbs
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark – The National Weather Service has placed Fayetteville, Arkansas under a flood watch until 6:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.
The majority of the state is under a severe weather warning as a large weather front moves from the Gulf of Mexico into the Great Lakes. The National Weather Service expects 2 to 5 inches of rainfall before Thursday morning.
Travelers should be cautious as late night showers could transform into freezing rain as the temperature nears freezing.
While the heavy downpour can be dangerous, the additional rainfall comes as a relief to a Fayetteville affected by drought. The Northwest Arkansas region has been unseasonably dry this February.
This month’s rainfall totals are 2 inches below the average. Officials expect this wave of wet weather to bring Fayetteville out of the drought.
