Shelter Raises Awareness for Adoption

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark – One local Fayetteville animal shelter is informing the community about the benefits of adopting a pet.

Fayetteville Animal Services is currently taking in around 15 dogs and cats per week but not all will be adopted. The number of pets in Washington County that are being put down per week is 2-percent but Fayetteville Animal Services is aiming to lower this number altogether.

One shelter worker said the benefits of adoption outweigh the cons.

“You are going out and paying thousands of dollars for a dog or a cat and you could adopt one for 60 dollars and everything is included,” receptionist Joni Mosher said.

Mosher said she is thankful to live in a place where there are already high adoption rates and the community each week holds events every week to raise awareness.

“The biggest advantage is not having so many homeless animals anymore, you are saving them from being here for a long time,” Mosher said.

Fayetteville Animal Shelter adoptions start at 60 dollars and include everything a pet owner needs in order for the animal to be happy and healthy.
