FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (UATV) — “Everyone is accepted in this city no matter what country they come from, the color of their skin, their religious belief or who they love. We are all one together and we move the city forward together,” Fayetteville Mayor Lioneld Jordan said.

Inclusion is the main message at this celebration at the Saint James Missionary Baptist church.

It’s hosted by the Compassion Fayetteville black history team, to promote inclusion throughout the entire year.

“What we are using black history month for is a catalyst and a springboard to create opportunity for diversity inclusion for the entire year. Particularly building allies, promoting black businesses, having conversations, and sharing experiences,” said D’Andre Jones from Compassion Fayetteville.

During the celebration they took time to honor black owned businesses in Fayetteville.

Although black history month ends today (Feb. 28)  Fayetteville’s mayor says this city has always been for each other.

“The beautiful thing about this city is not what we market, but it’s what we believe and we believe in one another and that partnership-based government,” Jordan said.
